Interreg Connectivity defines new scenarios for Southern Adriatic Transport
Southern Adriatic Transport

The future of mobility in the Southern Adriatic is taking shape through stronger cross-border cooperation. Thanks to the Connectivity project, institutional partners have completed three important technical Focus Groups to define practical solutions for safer, smarter, and more sustainable transport connections across the region. Led by the Puglia Region, the discussions brought together experts to analyze mobility flows, tourism trends, and territorial data, with a clear goal: building a transport system aligned with European green standards and ready for future challenges. The meetings focused on three key areas:

  • Multimodal Mobility: The current transport offering was mapped in terms of connections, trends, and service levels for the various modes, noting the growth of the Tirana airport hub and the need to strengthen cross-border maritime connections.
  • TEN-T Networks: The analysis highlighted the importance of existing and under-construction rail and road connections, with particular attention to connections between urban hubs, ports, airports, and inland areas.
  • Corridor VIII: A specific session reaffirmed the centrality of the connection between the Adriatic and Black Seas, discussing the opportunities for integrating the coastal routes of Montenegro and Albania with some priority routes to the East.

These results will now feed into three thematic studies and future guidelines for multilevel cooperation, paving the way for pilot actions and the Strategic and Action Plan for the Lower Adriatic.

The vision is clear: creating an integrated transport network that goes beyond infrastructure, becoming a real model of Adriatic cooperation capable of attracting international investment and improving everyday life for citizens across the region.
