CROSS-MOVE partners in Mola di Bari to launch cooperation on sustainable urban mobility in the South Adriatic
city

Cities across the Adriatic region face growing challenges related to pollution, traffic congestion and limited sustainable mobility options, especially in small and medium-sized municipalities. Many local authorities lack the tools and shared knowledge needed to design effective mobility solutions that improve daily life for citizens while protecting the environment.

The CROSS-MOVE project, launched on July 1, 2025, brings together partners from Italy, Albania and Montenegro to address these challenges through cooperation and the exchange of experience. Led by the Municipality of Mola di Bari, the partnership includes the Municipality of Korça (Albania), the Municipality of Bojano (Italy, Molise region) and the public utility company “Komunalno/Komunale” Tuzi (Montenegro), active in the management of local public services and public transport in the Montenegrin territory. The project is further supported by the Municipality of Tuzi (Montenegro) as an Associated Partner, contributing to the integration of project results into local policies and sustainable mobility planning.

The partners will be the key actors of the CROSS-MOVE kick-off meeting, scheduled for Wednesday, March 18, 2026, in Mola di Bari, where they will discuss the first steps of the project and agree on a shared approach to implement its activities. These include analyzing mobility needs, identifying adaptable solutions for their territories, planning the development and updating of their Sustainable Urban Mobility Plans (SUMPs), and discussing the future implementation of local sustainable urban mobility actions. The project will also work towards creating the foundations for a cross-border SUMP, representing one of the most innovative and strategic elements of CROSS-MOVE, aimed at strengthening coordination and cooperation on mobility planning across the South Adriatic area.

On Wednesday, the event will open with a press conference involving local and regional media, giving visibility to the initiative. Activities will continue throughout the day also with the participation of representatives of the Joint Secretariat, who will provide guidance on key project management and communication aspects relevant for the entire 30-month duration of the project. Among them will be Project Officer Francesca Romana Schiavone, Project Officer Chiara Campanile, and Programme Communication Officer Carmela Sfregola.
