As summer approaches and wildfire risks increase, the Apulia Region is bringing together key institutions and frontline operators to strengthen prevention efforts in the Tremiti Islands.
On June 3 at 11:00 a.m., the Civil Protection and Emergency Management Department of the Apulia Region will host a participatory meeting at its headquarters in Modugno (Via delle Magnolie, Bari Italy). The event is part of the Interreg Resilience Project, which promotes cooperation and shared strategies for managing risks and protecting local communities.
The meeting will focus on improving wildfire prevention and emergency response in the Tremiti Islands, an area whose unique environmental and logistical characteristics require careful planning and coordination.
Among those attending will be the Mayor of the Tremiti Islands, Regional Councilor Debora Ciliento, and Nicola Lopane, Director of the Civil Protection and Emergency Management Department. They will be joined by representatives from the Fire Brigade, Forestry Carabinieri, the Regional Agency for Irrigation and Forestry Activities, the National Park Authority, Civil Protection volunteer organizations, and Acquedotto Pugliese.
A key topic will be water availability. As an island territory, the Tremiti Islands have limited water resources, making effective water management crucial during wildfire emergencies. For this reason, the contribution of Acquedotto Pugliese will play an important role in the discussion.
The meeting is designed as an open forum where those working directly in the field can share their experiences, identify challenges, and propose solutions. The insights collected will help shape more effective planning tools and emergency management strategies.
The ultimate goal is clear: to strengthen wildfire prevention, improve territorial safety, and better protect the Tremiti Islands’ valuable natural heritage through cooperation and shared responsibility.
