#AIEDUSEA concludes Living Lab workshops in Apulia, engaging students in AI-based solutions for marine biodiversity
The Living Lab Design Contest activities of the #AIEDUSEA project have successfully concluded their first phase, engaging nearly 200 students and around 15 teachers from four secondary schools between Taranto and Bari. The workshops took place at Istituto Tecnico Economico Statale “Pitagora” (Taranto); Liceo Scientifico “Enrico Fermi”(Bari); Istituto Tecnico Tecnologico e Liceo Scientifico “Guglielmo Marconi – Margherita Hack” (Bari) and Liceo Classico “Socrate” (Bari).
These initial labs offered students a first hands-on experience within the project. Guided by a participatory approach, they explored the world of the sea and its biodiversity through creative challenges, using generative Artificial Intelligence as a tool to spark ideas and develop original concepts.
Classrooms turned into vibrant innovation spaces, where technology met sustainability and imagination. Students worked together to reflect on real environmental issues and propose forward-thinking solutions.
This marks just the beginning. The journey continues as participants refine their ideas and move towards the next phase of the A.I. EDU SEA Design Contest, bringing fresh perspectives to the future of our seas.
The project AI Edu Sea brings Artificial Intelligence and innovative digital tools into schools to make ocean learning more engaging and meaningful. Through cooperation between Italy, Albania, and Montenegro, it develops interactive methods, trains teachers, and involves students in hands-on activities focused on marine ecosystems. With a budget of around € 809,000, it will deliver shared learning tools and build a network of schools and educators. The goal is clear: empower young people with skills, awareness, and a deeper connection to the sea and its future.
The project is led by Jonian Dolphin Conservation (Italy), in cooperation with CNR-STIIMA, People in Focus, Municipality of Kotor, CoNISMa, and CDDI, bringing together expertise in research, education, and environmental protection.
